Permanent Makeup Aftercare

Healing is a process that takes time. Some skin will heal faster than others, some skin will retain pigment longer, everyone is different. Skin, lifestyle, tanning, weather, and following aftercare instructions will all determine your permanent makeup outcome. Brows will get darker and look uneven during the first stage of the healing process. They will shed and lighten 25-60% throughout the following weeks. At the perfecting session, we can make slight changes/alterations if needed. Please remember to put nothing aside from the aftercare cream on the area for the first 7 days.

Following the aftercare instructions is a vital part of achieving optimal results! Neglecting or trying to rush the healing process will result in less than satisfactory results.

Next 7 days

Don't trust the color

The color will continue to change as your Permanent Makeup is healing. Don't trust the color until the perfecting session, we can address any changes needed then.

Do put anything else on the area until your Permanent Makeup has flaked and healed.

Aftercare Instructions

  • Be sure to use the aftercare as needed and keep lips clean. Don't touch them with your fingers, or kiss your partner without washing them after. Be careful of the things you eat and drink, use a straw and avoid spicy food. Ice if needed.
  • As the lips peel and flake, resist the urge to peel them. Let them peel naturally and continue applying aftercare

Lip Aftercare instructions

Lips will be very dark and bold at first. Within the first 3 days, they will flake and peel. They will feel dry and chapped. After they shed the initial layer, the color will look very light and possibly uneven, this is called ghosting. As the lip skin heals and settles, it can take up to 4 weeks for the color to bloom. Give it time and don't worry, the color will return.

You will be back in the studio for your perfecting session in 8 weeks. At that point, we can make slight changes to the color and shape if necessary.
  • Do not exfoliate, use a washcloth, or anything abrasive to wash your Permanent Makeup
  • Do not pick or scratch your tattoo
  • Avoid hot tubs, steam rooms, pools, lakes/rivers, and hot yoga during the healing process
  • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for 2 weeks
  • Avoid wearing makeup or products on skin
  • Avoid sweaty exercise for 2 weeks
  • Avoid brows, lash tints, or other facial treatments for 10 days.

Healing tips

Long term tips

  • Wear a daily sunscreen to prevent the sun from prematurely fading the pigment in the skin
  • If a product lightens, brightens, or tightens avoid using it around your brows indefinitely
  • Get a yearly touch-up to maintain the full color and shape of your Permanent Makeup
  • After applying your makeup/foundation, take a damp Q-tip and clean off your brows. This allows the pigment to show through without looking muddled by makeup
  • Keep lips moisturized
